THE ORIGIN OF SICKNESS

GOOD HEALTH

"And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.”

(Genesis 2:16,17)

Sickness came as a result of sin. When man sinned, he died spiritually. Not only that, the law of death continued to be at work in him; the result is sickness.

Before man sinned, man was spiritually sound - God created him in his image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). Psychologically (Genesis 2:19,20) and emotionally, man was sound-man did not hide from God at the time he had not sinned (Genesis 3:7,8). Man also had physical soundness ( Psalm 139:14).

These perfections were lost after the fall as a result of sin. Man became spiritually sick, psychologically sick, emotionally sick and physically sick. The entire being of man becomes corrupted.

This truth was captured in Prophet Isaiah’s prophesy quoted by Apostle Matthew ( Matthew 8:17) " This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases". The reason why the Messiah had to come was to deal with the effect of sin, one of which is sickness.

The redemptive work of Christ has healing embedded in it as an integral part. Sin brought sickness, but healing has come to us through the redemptive work of Christ.
