“ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:”

1 Peter 2:9

God is building a new family that is destined for eternal dwelling with him. This new family is the church. The bible gives us a lot of vivid description of what the church is.

In 1 Peter 2:9, Apostle Peter gives one of the models of the church which we have to pattern after. Here, it is clear that, the church is people who have been called out of darkness by God into his marvelous light.

These people, have become a chosen race unto God. Their breed is of divine origin. They bear the characteristic of God.

They are a royal priesthood unto God. Like the priest, they dedicate their lives to God.

They are a holy nation unto God. They are people who live to please God.

They are people on whom God has placed a seal of ownership.

Thus the church is not a group of people who meet to do acts of worship. It is people who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and savior and for that reason have become a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and God’s own possession because they have been called out of darkness and brought into the marvelous light of God.

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Forgive me all my sins. I believe that you are the only savior of the world. You died for my sins and resurrected for my justification. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. I will live for you for the rest of my life. So help me God.
