THE BIBLE IS GOD'S WORD

Text: 2 Timothy 3:16,17

“ All Scripture is God-breathed and it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”

The Bible has come to us through plenary – verbal revelation from God and inspiration of God. It is the word of God in its entirety. Every word and message of the Bible were revealed and inspired by God.

That it is reliable , trustworthy and the final arbiter in all things pertaining to faith, life and godliness is not far-fetched:

  • It is a divine revelation

The Bible is divine literature with God as its author. Every word of the Bible is from God and every idea and message it carries are a revelation from him to mankind to know his will and live by them. ( Ephesians 3:3-5; Galatians 1:12, 2 Timothy 3:16,17)

  • It came by divine inspiration

After revealing his word, God by his Spirit, supernaturally breathed into human authors, superintended over their heart and mind and guided them to write what he wanted them to write. So men received by revelation and transmitted by inspiration. ( Exodus 17:14; Revelation 1:11)

  • It is final and divine in authority

The Bible is the only authoritative and living word of God; defining God’s standard for faith and practice for all humanity. It is the only basis for every creed and doctrine of the church for Christian formation.

  • It is infallible

The Bible is not wrong on any subject. That it is infallible is consistent with the nature of God ( Hebrews 6:18). Coming an all knowing God it will be impossible for the Bible to be defective ( 1 John 3:20).

  • It is inerrant

There are no errors in the Bible in terms of choice of words, grammatical accuracy, spelling and or internal contradiction. It has no flaws (Psalm 12:6, Psalm 18:30; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Samuel 22:31)

  • It is comprehensive

It reveals God’s mind and will on every subject pertaining to life, faith and godliness. It is an embodiment of everything that can make our way pure (Psalm 119:9).

  • It is sufficient in its provisions.

It deals adequately with every subject; providing enough responses to all issues and questions..

“ Do not let this Book of Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8)
